In my experience of building, reviewing and maintaining business websites it all comes down to two things.Which is why I have a 50/50 chance of knowing EXACTLY why your business website is not working.
Now you might be thinking - my business website is working. So let me define what I mean when I say "not working". A working website (to me) is one which is generating business on a regular basis. So you are receiving qualified leads or new customers daily, weekly or monthly.
So if your website is "not working" then it all comes down to these two things:
1. Low traffic - your website is not getting enough of the VISITORS
2. Low conversions - your website is not CONVERTING visitors into customers
It really does all come down to this - and I can even tell you how you can see which of these problems relates to your business website.
All you need to do is look at the average number of visitors your website receives each month.
If you don't have Google Analytics or at least some way of seeing who is looking at your site - then you have a bigger problem. So my advice start measuring your website NOW.
If your average number of visitors is less than 250 - you are in the low traffic group.
If your average number of visitors is greater than 250 and you are getting no leads - you are in the low conversions group.
Now the average number really depends on the type of business you own, location , industry, etc. But in my experience a website getting around 250 visitors a month SHOULD see at least 3-6 leads generated every month.
What does this all mean?
Once you know you have a problem it is much easier to get it fixed. It is also much easier to go to someone in my industry and request help with increasing traffic to your website - or increasing the conversions on your website.Most importantly - you now know how to measure what impact any changes have on your business!
